BrowseAloud...Making our website talk!

BrowseAloud is a text-to-speech application that assists people with mild visual impairments, low literacy and reading skills, and English as a second language, to read the content on our website and other activated websites.

Once the software is downloaded onto personal computers and activated, it works by speaking the words as a cursor moves over the selected text.

BrowseAloud is available free to people who are using our website and other activated websites.

To read more about this software visit the BrowseAloud website or alternatively follow the instructions below to install the software.

Please note that BrowseAloud Version 5.0.2 will also read PDF documents if you have Adobe Version 8 or higher.

 

 

BrowseAloud Installation

For full details on how to download and install BrowseAloud on your computer, please visit the BrowseAloud website and follow the instructions outlined in the download section.


Using BrowseAloud

 Once the software is installed you will see a circular icon in the system tray in the lower right section of the screen.

To access the main settings, either:

Double click the BrowseAloud icon,


Right click the BrowseAloud icon, then left click OPEN BROWSEALOUD SETTINGS,


Hold down CTRL + WINDOWS LOGO + TAB to toggle to the System Tray, use the right arrow to select the BrowseAloud icon, then press RETURN.

By moving through the appropriate tabs within the main settings box, some elements such as speech, pronunciation, updates etc can be altered to suit individual requirements and taste.

Uninstalling BrowseAloud

Should you wish to uninstall BrowseAloud, full instructions are available on how to do this from the uninstall section of their website.

The city of Greater Bendigo encourages other organisations to join with it in its use of BrowaseAloud as a community service that provides improved access to information while at the same time meeting legislative requirements under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act.
